Nadine: “I don’t know if I will live much longer”
Nadine* is one of the young women, survivor of sexual violence, that NÈGÈS MAWON supports, who has a special place in my heart and has changed me forever. At 18 years old, just one month after being raped for more than 72 hours by armed gang members, beaten so badly that she lost hearing in one ear, having had an abortion because she was pregnant from her assault, and getting HIV from her attackers, the only thing she asked for without hesitation when she came to our office the first time was “help to go back to school”.
Her joy for life is a blessing for all of us. I am honored to have had the strength to tell her story and I love her so much.
